Gauge pointers are used to visually highlight certain data values on a gauge axis. Gauge pointers are available only for radial and linear gauge types.

For a radial gauge a pointer can be displayed as needle or marker. For a linear gauge a pointer is always displayed as marker. A gauge area can have an unlimited number of gauge pointers, each of which is scaled on exactly one gauge axis.

Pointers are visually added, removed and edited from the Pointers tab (Gauge > Gauge Areas > Pointers tab). Following is a description of the gauge pointer settings:

     General

Value - defines the pointer value. Specified by an expression/gauge formula editor (see Gauge Formulas).

Axis - specifies the axis on which the pointer is scaled. The pointer value is clamped to this axis [min;max] range.

     Appearance

Paint Order - controls the order in which the pointer is visualized relative to the scales contained in the gauge or child gauges (if any). Possible values are:

    • Auto - the web part will automatically determine the paint order. When the type of the pointer is Marker it will be painted after the scales. If the type of the pointer is Needle it will be painted after the scale and child gauges. This allow needles to overlap the content of child gauges.
    • Before Scale - the pointer is visualized before the scales in the gauge, thereby allowing the scale labels, ticks and ruler to obscure it.
    • After Scale - the pointer is visualized after the scales in the gauge, thereby obscuring scale labels, ticks and ruler.
    • After Child Gauges - in this mode the range is visualized after the the child gauges.

Type - lets you choose between needle and marker pointer types. Only visible for radial gauge types.

Needle Shape - controls the shape of the needle, in the cause of radial gauges for which the Type is set to Needle.

Marker Shape - controls the shape of the marker, in the cause of linear gauges or radial gauges for which the Type is set to Marker.

Width - controls the width of the needle/marker.

Height - controls the height of a marker (only applicable when the pointer is displayed as marker).

Offset From Center - controls the offset from the gauge center, when the pointer type is set to Needle.

Offset From Scale - controls the offset of the pointer from the scale it is attached to.

Offset Origin Mode - controls how the offset from scale is calculated. Possible values are:

    • Scale Begin - offset is applied from the begin of the scale in gauge model space.
    • Scale Middle - offset is applied from the middle of the scale in gauge model space.
    • Scale End - offset is applied from the end of the scale in gauge model space.

Fill Style - specifies the pointer filling.

Stroke Style - specifies the pointer outline.

Shadow Style - specifies the pointer shadow.

     Action
Lets you choose the type of action associated with the pointer. See Actions and Drill Down reports for more info.
